Designer Highlight with Irit Shalom

Hello, Prickley Pear Fans!

This week, we've got a Designer Highlight with Irit Shalom! Irit recently created this gorgeous canvas and I was curious about some of the techniques she used.

So, I've asked Irit to share with us some of her secrets.

Irit first covered the canvas with gesso, then applied texture paste used with her chosen stencils. To get the bubbles, the texture paste was dried with a heat gun. After that, acrylic paint was used to paint the canvas and the other stenciled areas.

Next up was adding the stamps. Having a hard time getting your sentiments and images added? Irit first stamped her images onto white tissue paper with Archival Ink, then tore the tissue and applied it to the canvas with gel medium.
(Sentiment: Creativity)

This also provides the opportunity to change the images a bit. This girl with flowers is half of the original stamped image. The other half was carefully torn away from the tissue.
(Image: Love You Mom)

Additional stamps were stamped directly onto the canvas, such as flowers and the small butterflies near the the top of the canvas.
(Flowers: Circles Set)

Chipboard was added after being painted and, in some cases, covered with crackle glaze.
(Butterflies: Butterfly Clear Set)

Next, splatters were added with a mix of mists over the dry painted canvas. Finally, the butterflies were stamped, die cut and glued onto the canvas.
(Butterflies Cut with the Butterfly Die)

My goodness! Irit makes it look so easy.

These aren't the only Prickley Pear sets that would make gorgeous canvas works of art. Check out the entire inventory in the Prickley Pear store for more great options.

This is our second edition of Vintage Viewpoint, where we look at some of the older items in the Prickley Pear inventory. Sometime when you find a new stamp company, the options are overwhelming!
So, let's take a closer look at what's in the Prickley Pear store.

Ready for Birthdays

If you're like me, you're always looking to keep a stash of birthday cards on hand. Recently, my stash was dwindling, so I decided it was time to sit down and craft some up.

Prickley Pear has a large selection of options that make great birthday cards! Here are some the Design Team has created.

On this card, Heather cut out flowers using the Mini Hibiscus and Flowers die sets. She stamped florals from the Flowers 2 clear stamp set onto the die cut outs and then used the sentiment from Build an Ice Cream

Heidi's creation with the Build an Ice Cream set and matching die makes a bright, cheerful birthday card. Color those cones up in as 31 flavors for an easy-to-grab option for any age.
Also featured on this card is the Flourish Die.

Washi tape makes a quick and easy birthday card solution too. Here, Tracie has added some colorful tape to her background and the added an image and sentiment from the Dragonflies 2 set.

Sometimes the unexpected sets make great birthday cards too. This card from Heather features the Steampunk Gears 3 and Gears 2 stamp sets. And, no fussy cutting those gear edges with the Steampunk Gears die.

Michelle's changed it up a bit with this easy gatefold card. Featuring the Build a Cupcake set, there are endless creative birthday options with just one stamp set and matching die.

Thursday Inspiration!!

My favorite thing about Thursdays might just be that they come right before Friday...or maybe it's the new projects here on the Prickley Pear Rubber Stamps blog.

Are you as excited as I am to find out what the Design Team has been up to this week?

First up this week is the second new Designer we welcomed to the team this month, Irit. Welcome Irit!

Irit's first project with us is this gorgeous spring card. There are so many wonderful products on this that you'll have to swing over to Irit's blog for the complete list. In the meantime, I spot the Flourished Eiffel and Flower Silhouettes along with the Flowers 2 clear set and Circled set sentiments

Michelle also welcomes spring with this adorable card featuring Penny (who is also available in a smaller size, if you like). That sentiment comes from the Build a Bird clear set.

And while we wait for spring to laugh in the sunshine, let's take time to Live, Dance, Laugh among the flowers. Michelle has paired the sentiment with the Butterfly Sentiments and Flowers 2 sets
The matching Butterfly Die and Flowers die makes these images a snap to cut out.

Heidi has also used a smaller version of the Live, Dance, Love sentiment, which you can find in the Flowers clear stamp set. She has paired it with the Flower Silhouettes, a red rubber stamp.

And, the floral theme continues with Heather. Here she's used the new Shamrocks red rubber and Happy Birthday to Use sentiment.

I love the variety of color in everyone's projects this week! Makes me hope think that spring is out there, just around the corner!

We'll be back soon with more great projects from the Prickley Pear Design Team. Check out the entire selection of high quality stamps in the online store
